Legendary rock style lunches and fishy brunches in the city!

Flada 13 is a cozy restaurant, led by the same masterminds as the ones behind the former illustrious restaurant Helsinge, serving homely food with some Italian influences. The restaurant serves both lunches and brunches on Kalevankatu.

The name refers to the former name of Kalevankatu, Vladimirkatu that is, which in the mouth of a Helsinkian is transformed into Flada.

A mirthful detail about the restaurant is that during the weekend brunches it’s possible to choose between a meat or fish based brunch (16,50€).

Another piece of restaurant news is that from tomorrow one can enjoy lunches for the first time in the legendary restaurant Ilves (the Finnish word for lynx), founded in 1932.

Restaurant Ilves is a lunch and dinner restaurant with some serious rock attitude. When the Tavastia club opened in 1970 next to the restaurant, Ilves became a regular hangout for musicians overnight.

The kitchen promises that the dishes are similar to the ones one enjoy at home at a family table. The mashed potatoes might have lumps in it, but that is something the restaurant is happy about since it prooves that all the dishes are made from scratch in the restaurant kitchen.

Concerning the ingredients used in the restaurant, Ilves focuses on trendy local food and a versatile vegetarian food supply. All the lunches include a salad and some organic bread.

Restaurant Ilves tries to differ itself from the other surrounding lunch restaurants by having longer lunch hours and offering take away portions. The lunch menu is available from Mondays to Thursdays until three o’clock and on Fridays until four o’clock. On Friday one can even decide not to return to work since there is a 10€ lunch wine bottle available!

The classic dishes of restaurant Ilves are dill meat and traditional Karelian steak.

An interesting detail worth mentioning is that the restaurant sells a book called “the rock menus of Ilves” where famous Finnish rock artists (e.g. Jyrki 69, Andy McCoy, Lauri Ylönen, Janne Puurtinen from HIM and Tomi Joutsen from Amorphis) have shared their favorite dishes.
