The city is captured by crêpes thanks to La Creperie Tram Café!

”The crepes are made with love and care – and you can feel it in the taste as well.” This is how the regular customer Johanna Sandberg comments the new tram café as she waits next to be for her crêpe.

The tram café La Creperie is a breath of fresh air in Helsinki since it offers both savory and sweet crêpes at the reasonable price of 3,90-6,50€. The sympathetic owner Kyriakos Telemachou knows to tell that the crepes with chicken, roast beef, ham and vegetarian filling have been the most popular. Among the sweet crêpes the ones with Nutella, banana, white chocolate and fresh strawberries have been crowd-pleasers. There is a lot of choice: the tram café has as many as 39 different crêpes in its selection.

The crepes are ordered according to their number on the menu, so during the busy lunch times it’s good to know the number of the crepe you want in ad-vance. Customers can also call and place an order beforehand, in that way the crepe making process is speeded up.

Telemachou’s personal investment is evident: the tram café is family run and the dough and olive oil used to spice up the crêpes are based on the owner’s recipe. Besides crêpes the tram café offers hot and cold beverages, but no sodas.

The initial idea of Cyprian Telemachou was to sell crêpes from a cottage like kiosk but eventually the idea changed and Telemachou decided to open up a classic tram café instead. The owner has learned to make French style crêpes in Cyprus. Telemachou’s background in embassy oriented but he has opened the tram café fulfill his love for food.

This far the tram café has been seen in two places: at the main entrance of the shopping center Forum and on the square above the same shopping center. Since Monday it is parked next to the Glass palace. There it will stay for at least four months.
