Happy Restaurant Day! Today 291 restaurants, cafés and bars in 48 different places and 12 different countries await you!
To recap in short what the Restaurant Day is all about, one can in short say that it’s a carnival in favor of the restaurant and food culture. The theme day started back in May 2011 and it’s a one-day-long culinary carnival. The Restaurant Day was recently awarded as “the cultural achievement of year 2011” by the City of Helsinki Cultural Office.
This Finnish event has meant to encourage people to start up restaurants for one day. One can open a café, restaurant, kiosk, street café or any other kind of food place, even in one’s home! According to the concept only one’s imagination is the limit!
According to Finnish Matkaopas magazine the event is spreading around the world. Today these kinds of pop up restaurant will be visible also in Brazil, Nicaragua, Iceland, Sweden, Estonia, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Thailand and Japan. Even popular Finnish blogs like e.g. Pupulandia have discussed the event in their text.
