New record year expected in Helsinki tourism 2010
The number of overnight stays in Helsinki have grown faster than originally forecast in the first half of this year. Whereas growth of four percent
had been forecast, the actual increase has been nine percent during January-August. Even a slight increase in the second half of the year will be enough to set a new record to beat the last top numbers from 2008.
Latest numbers are from August when nights at accommodation establishments in Helsinki were up 6.6% compared with the year before. Growth occurred on the domestic market (+22.3%), while foreigners’ nights declined slightly (-1.6%). Both leisure and business travel increased significantly on the domestic market.
