Finlandia vodka strikes back! Cocktail living room Liberty or Death opened in Design District

Laboratoriumm, a Finland based company that specializes in the spirit industry, lead by Jyri Pylkkänen and Michael Grönfors, has finally opened a cocktail bar in Helsinki names Liberty or Death! The cocktail living room that fits 49 persons is devoted to personal cocktails and fresh ingredients. Liberty or Death wants to evoke emotions through their house cocktails. Ramses Showlah, Mauricio Allende (familiar from e.g. the Absolute pop up bar) and Jere Vihervaara also take part in the culinary group of the bar.

The same cocktail makers as in Grotesk, Namu and Koitto bars are behind this bar which assures the quality, freshness and innovativeness of the cocktails. The drinks smolder experience and true passion for cocktails. Influences have been taken from the international cocktail scene, especially from Italy and the United States. Finlandia vodka is one of the bar’s leading partners so the house cocktail list has many drinks based on it. All the house cocktails are priced at €11,50.

The bar itself looks amazing with great art pieces on the walls and a peculiar interior. The rough brick walls combined with otherwise white wall surfaces create a nice contrast. Large mirrors bring a sense of airiness to it all.

Tall book shelves are glutted with inspiring cocktail books that have inspired even the staff. Heads up – the enthusiasm of the staff is contagious! The idea is that customers can read the books while sipping a cocktail and feel like they are at home in their living room. In addition to books, the bar also has decks of cards for its customers.

The music selection at Liberty or Death is classical, almost jazz like. According to the staff a cocktail is like jazz music: it’s always melodic while staying experimental.

The cocktail living room is full of fun details: there is e.g. a jar shelf where cocktail ingredients are displayed.

Furthermore the bar rents drawers for their pigeonholes. Customers can rent a drawer and keep e.g. a purchased personal bottle in it. The yearly rent is €200.

One of the brick walls has loose bricks in it, in other words concealments, and the staff knows to tell that after every bar night there are hidden messages and souvenirs in these hideaways.

Bar tables can be reserved for private occasions and parties as well. With the help of restaurant Demo, even food serving is possible at Liberty or Death upon request.
