Font Walk lets you discover the gems of graphic design in Helsinki’s urban milieu!

Photographer: Katri Paakkanen/Napa Gallery

Part of the World Design Capital 2012 programme, Font Walk is an independently taken stroll around the streets of Kamppi, pointing out details and exploring the visual role of graphic design in the urban milieu. Cities and streets are full of visual stories – signs and symbols, letters and numbers. What if we looked at them from another angle?

Font Walk helps us to observe various public spaces, where fonts are present and which we may have passed by without paying attention. Thirty-one destinations illustrate the past and present of typography and graphic design, and also offer a glimpse of the micro history of the area.

The starting point of the Font Walk is the map, available from Napa Gallery, helping you notice signs, logotypes and directions which usually remain unnoticed. Route takes approximately 45 minutes to walk. Families with kids can also walk through the complete route or choose just a small part of it.

The map is designed by graphic designer Camilla Pentti together with Napa and will be available at Napa Gallery from April 26, until the edition runs out.

Napa Gallery, Eerikinkatu 18, open Tue – Fri 12 – 18 and Sat 12 – 16.
