Newcomers in Helsinki’s restaurant scene this fall
The Helsinki restaurant scene is evolving and expanding with many new spots opening their doors this fall. Ecological and organic cuisine has finally gained a stronger foothold in Helsinki after restaurant Chef & Sommelier, with a focus on organic ingredients in the menu, was opened on Huvilakatu in Eira. New French-style bistro La Table was recently opened on Helsinki´s Ludviginkatu replacing the Michelin-starred restaurant Carma. La Table was created out of the owner Markus Aremo´s love for food, France and comic books. A lot can be expected from this restaurant since Aremo was also one of the forces behind Carma!
One of the latest newcomers in Helsinki nightlife is Humlegården, located at the premises of former Svenska Pubben, attracting especially Swedish-speaking clientele. The downstairs bar offers a hang-out lounge for the early hours of the evening and the night continues in the small, intimate nightclub upstairs. New Japanise-style bar Kamikaze popped up on Fredrikinkatu with a manga inspired interior and a drink list with a good selection of Japanese imported beer and sake. Birdland Jazz Club brought a long-awaited addition to Helsinki´s jazz scene with an emphasis on high-quality live music and the best of Finnish and international jazz musicians. Fredan Tivoli serves as an amusement park of the night for those looking for a venue for all-night clubbing and Roska Helsinki is a bar completely decorated with recycled materials.
