According to preliminary information, a new record was set in 2010 for the number of overnight stays at Helsinki’s accommodation outlets, exceeding 3.1 million. Growth was recorded for both leisure and business travel. Leisure travel accounted for just over half of all overnight stays. In addition, over 340,000 cruise passengers visited Helsinki last summer, almost breaking the previous record.

The upswing in tourism is expected to continue this year, and the positive trend will be further bolstered in the coming years now that Helsinki has been named World Design Capital 2012.
