Until the end of October one can enjoy a piece of Finland on a plate in the modern Scandinavian restaurant called König Helsinki, where harvest weeks (Sadonkorjuu-viikot) are celebrated between the 26th of September and the 22nd of October. During these theme weeks it is possible to try game dishes with autumnal treats like hare, elk, goose and wild boar. The autumnal treats are mushrooms, apples, Jerusalem artichoke, pumpkin and almond potatoes. For those who are visiting Helsinki for the first time, licorice (with the taste of the Finnish candy Sisu) ice cream is a must!
Betweentimes (20.9-31.10) König Helsinki offers also another kind of treat, in art form though. During the time in question the restaurant introduces the work of six Finnish top photographers. The photographers are Stefan Bremer, Charlotta Boucht, Katja Hagelstam, Jyrki Parantainen, Mikko Rasila and Riitta Sourander. The photo exhibition is free of charge and open for everybody. Visitors can walk in anytime and admire the photos, or have a cappuccino or drink at the bar, or even dine at the restaurant.
Restaurant König Helsinki belongs to the few restaurants still serving during working days a Finnish home-made food buffet lunch for the solid price of 9,20€. With dessert or coffee the price of the lunch is 11,20€.
König Helsinki is also one of the rare Finnish restaurants in Helsinki still serving the favorite dish of our former president Mannerheim called Vorschmack. It is prepared mainly out of minced meat, anchovies or herring and onions. The said restaurant also serves all-year-round blinis.
