#HelsinkiSecret Residence: Alexey & Mariia
Elisabeth Heinrichs February 19, 2016

From the beginning of 2016, the #HelsinkiSecret Residence serves as a base for international social media influencers reporting from the city center of Helsinki. The #HelsinkiSecret Residence is an initiative by Visit Helsinki and represents a globally unique form of city marketing utilizing social media. The residence comprises a studio apartment in the city center that will be open for the entire year, accommodating up to 100 international social media influencers with expertise in tourism, start-ups, education and the creative industries, for example. The #HelsinkiSecret Residence is a great example of the distinct, multi-sectored and partner-based form of marketing that Visit Helsinki believes in.

In the end of January, the #HelsinkiSecret Residence welcomed Russian Alexey & Mariia. This blog post showcases their favorite memories of Helsinki.

Alexey & Mariia: “We love Finland and since we live in St. Petersburg we’ve been in Helsinki so many times but mostly during short trips (weekend city breaks or so). We had a dream to come to Finland and to live here for a while not as tourists but as local people. And we were so excited to get this opportunity and spend a week at the #HelsinkiSecret Residence.”

Alexey & Mariia: “To be honest our expectations were only about the apartment so we were really surprised to know what exactly included in this Helsinki Survival Kit. Just during one week we visited so many interesting places and it was amazing! We’ve been to an ice hockey match and though we didn’t have any idea who were playing we had so much fun there! We spent some unforgettable couple of hours in Musiikkitalo (Helsinki Music Centre) where we were listening to breathtaking music performed by the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra and a world famous piano player.”

Alexey & Mariia: “We also had extreme experiences when we were driving a snowmobile with Burn Out City on the ice where we drifted, spun and even fell down (without injuries fortunately).”

Alexey & Mariia: “We had an excellent winter-snow-shoes-hiking-trip in Nuuksio National Park with super guide Olli from Feel The Nature.”

Alexey & Mariia: “We were skating at the Jääpuisto Ice Skating Rink in the heart of the city center and clocked up dozens of kilometers just walking around the town.”

Alexey & Mariia: “On Radio Helsinki, we were interviewed about our travels and feelings about Finland and we have met Executive Director of DocPoint film festival Ulla Bergströn there. We left the studio with some tickets for the festival and afterwards we saw a couple of the festival’s movies and were impressed a lot by one of them – Sonita.”

Alexey & Mariia: “And of course one of our biggest impressions of Finland has been its cuisine. We were happy to visit the oldest cafes  – Ekberg and Karl Fazer, to taste yummy food in famous restaurants Nokka and Juuri, and enjoy the amazing views during the dinner in Savotta, Kappeli and Meripaviljonki.”
