New restaurant in town – OX
Jana Bobkova May 6, 2016

This spring has really spiced up Helsinki’s restaurant scene. New interesting restaurants have been popping up almost on a weekly basis. Pieni Roobertinkatu has slowly become the hippest restaurant street in town. No wonder, as the location is ideal – it is situated only a short walk from the Esplanade Park, in the heart of the Design District. One of the most interesting newcomers on the street is the recently opened restaurant OX. Luckily I was invited to the opening party.

The restaurant was opened by an impressive group of chefs who are also behind the Michelin starred restaurant Demo, Sushibar + Wine and restaurant Story in the Old Market Hall. Restaurant OX was opened in March and the opening was celebrated in the end of April.

Guests had the chance to try miniature versions of the different dishes off the menu during the evening. My absolute favourite was the juicy burger. It’s one of the best ones I’ve tried and believe me I’ve done my research. The amazing burger is served during lunch. The lamb tartare served with almond crème was also really good. Delicious vegetable pitas were also served, so the restaurant has vegetarian options on the menu as well.

The restaurant also looks good. Architect Joanna Laajisto designed the beautiful space. The pistachio green walls, red leather sofas and golden lamps create interesting contrasts. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed.

Both lunch and dinner are served from Monday to Saturday. The restaurant’s speciality is the never-ending menu that allows the customer to decide how many dishes are enough.

I’ll definitely be back for a dinner in the summer!
